Thailand
has been chosen by many as their retirement haven primarily because of the ease
in obtaining retirement visa. If you are a foreigner who is considering
spending the rest of your retirement years in this beautiful Kingdom, you must
first check your qualification under their Immigration Law. The applicant only needs
to be at least 50 years to file an application. You should also be able to show
to the authorities that you are in possession of at least 800,000 Baht. This
amount is required to be deposited in a Thai bank at least 2 months before your
application. Should you fail on this requirement, you can just exhibit evidence
that you have monthly income of not less than 65,000 baht or that your
accumulated savings totals to at least 800,000 Baht.
Furthermore, you are required to
submit the photocopy of your stamped passport which should still be valid for
at least 18 months. All these documents must be submitted along with a
completely filled up application form for Thailand retirement visa. If you
are still abroad, your application form must be submitted to the Thai Consular
Mission. But there are applicants who are required to file their application in
the Thailand Immigration Office. Those applicants who are under a Health
Rehabilitation Program in health care facilities and hospitals are required to
file application in the country. Usually the organization itself will be the
one to process your application.
Your retirement visa Thailand starts from the first
appearance in the Immigration office upon approval. It is required that you
personally appear and sign the visa document in front of the Immigration staff.
The officer will then put a stamp in the passport at the time it was approved.
The visa once approved, will allow the foreigner to stay in Thailand for a
year. You are also required to report to the Immigration every 90 days for
address verification. One of the restrictions if you are a holder of this visa
is that you cannot be engage in any form of employment. You will also be given
only a period of six months to bring your household item from your home nation.
Upon expiration, an extension of one year might still be granted if the
applicant has continuously complied with the requirements. Beware however that
the regulation on the issuance of visa may be modified from time to time. It is
advisable that you check with the consulate office.
